Have you always wanted to start over? Start freelancing? Would you like to learn something new but think that ship has sailed? Are you scared of making a fool of yourself? You know, 10-20 years ago, learning another profession to change careers was highly challenging. How could you quit your job and take the time to learn something new? When were you going to find the money AND the time? But now the situation has completely changed:

  • It was very hard to find a new job if you were more than 30 years old and had no experience.
  • Finding time to visit a course and learn something new to have the chance at a better job was an impossible quest.
  • And quitting your job to have some time to visit a course was not the easiest way to make ends meet!

But nowadays, thanks to all the digital resources available, the game rules have changed:

  • First, you can educate yourself from home without anyone even knowing it, so you can avoid “making a fool out of yourself” as long as you want to!
  • Second, you don’t have to physically visit any course anymore! You can take up online programs that will be available for you to work at your own pace.
  • And finally, you don’t have to quit your job in order to complete an online course. You get to set the course schedule and your study times!

That means that you can become a web designer in your free time without having to leave your job before you start earning money as a freelancer, and just try if this is something for you. Or you can start writing that book you’ve always dreamt of and publish it online. And what’s best is that you can apply those new skills you’ve acquired and offer them as an online service from home or wherever you want. Bonus side effect? You don’t need to feel insecure about looking “too old” anymore!

What Is The Best Career to Start at 40?

There are tons of jobs you can perform online. With a little bit of creativity, there are hardly any jobs you can’t deliver from home. And if your physical presence were required to perform your job, you could teach how to do it. Your work would shift from your current profession to online teaching, but that’s an option you should consider. If you’re interested in starting to give online lessons, check out this post about how to create your first online course.

In my opinion, any digital service-based business is appropriate to change careers – no matter the age. And although “digital business” can sound too complicated, it doesn’t have to be though! You can adapt your work skills and even your hobbies, find customers and deliver all your work online.

In fact, for most jobs, you’ll only need a PC or laptop and a good Internet connection. Apart from that, it just takes a little bit of creativity and some hard work. If you need some help in coming up with ideas, check out the Reinvent Yourself series or download this free Ikigai worksheet!

Take your age as an asset, not as an obstacle. Your experience managing different situations in life can be more valuable than youth, so don’t let yourself believe that you aren’t good enough!
